12 Jul Add a new WordPress Tag
WordPress Tag provide more details about a post. These are ad-hoc keywords introduced to give more information to your content. For example, for a technical website tags can be Learning, Tutorials, Beginners, etc.
Tags do not have a hierarchy like Categories.
Adding WordPress Tag
Adding tags in WordPress is quite easy. For reaching the settings to add a new tag, login to your WordPress website as an admin, and after reaching the dashboard, go to Posts.
Under Posts, click Tags as shown below,
Reaching the WordPress tag section will allow you to visit all the tags now on the website and also an option to add a new tag. Here two sections are visible: Tags and Add New Tag,
You need to add the following field while adding a new tag,
- Name– Name of the tag
- Slug– The URL-friendly version of the name.
- Description– Tag description
Here, we are adding a new tag Beginners. So, after adding, we pressed the button Add New Tag and now our new tag is visible as shown below,
Categories vs Tags
Tags provide more details about a post. These are ad-hoc keywords that were introduced to give more information to your content.
Categories are arranged in hierarchy, whereas tags do not have a relation. While adding category in WordPress, you will be provided with an option to select Parent, since categories can have hierarchy.
