Network Layer in OSI Model

Network Layer in OSI Model is responsible for source to destination delivery of a packet. The lower layer, Data Link, checks the packet delivery between two systems on the same network.

The following are the roles of network layer in OSI Model,

Routing

The Network Layer route the packets to the final destination.

Logical Address

This layer adds a header the packet. A packet crossing network boundaries is provided with an addressing system. The system helps in distinguishing source and destination.

Internet protocol

Example of a well-known network layer protocol.
