The Application Layer in OSI Model provides support for E-Mail, shared database management, remote file access, etc.

The following are the roles of application layer in OSI Model,

Network Virtual Terminal

As the name suggests, it allows the user to log on a remote host. For this, the application terminal creates a remote host.

Email forwarding

The Application Layer allows the mechanism for email-forwarding and storage.

FTAM (File Transfer, Access and Management)

Access file in a remote computer with FTAM. You can retrieve, manage and control files from/ to remote computer.
