Statistics in machine learning can be categorized into several types, such as Descriptive and Inferential. Each serves a unique purpose and provides different insights. Both are branches of statistics.

The following are the types of statistics:

1. Descriptive Statistics: Descriptive statistics describes the properties of sample and population data This describes what has happened.
2. Inferential Statistics: Inferential statistics use those properties to test hypotheses, reach conclusions, and make predictions. This describes what can you expect.

Descriptive statistics is used to describe data (a chart or graph) and inferential statistics allows you to make predictions i.e. “inferences” from that data.
